Keep data only while it has a defined purpose
This page explains how to request deletion, what account deletion removes, and how long different kinds of information are normally retained during the private beta.
Effective August 1, 2026
Requesting account deletion
Eligible signed-in users can start verified deletion from Account settings. The request is confirmed through the account's verified email address before it takes effect. Users may also email support@dovelinelearning.com for help with access, correction, or deletion.
An instructor who remains responsible for a course may need to transfer or remove that responsibility before deleting the account so the course is not left without an authorized owner.
What account deletion does
Verified deletion removes the active account and its course access, bookmarks, notes, playback progress, assistant conversations, learning responses, and unused uploads. Shared discussion content is removed unless doing so would break a visible reply thread. In that case, only a content-free “Deleted user” placeholder remains; the author's identity and message text are removed.
Private-beta retention schedule
| Data category | Normal retention | Deletion treatment |
|---|---|---|
| Accounts, courses, learning activity, and assistant conversations | While the account or course remains active. | Removed following verified account or course deletion, apart from content-free discussion placeholders and temporary recovery copies. |
| Recovery copies | Short-term database recovery period; up to 14 days for deleted media and files. | Deleted information may remain in restricted recovery copies until those copies expire. |
| Security and diagnostic records | Up to 90 days for audit events; up to 30 days for technical diagnostics. | Records expire after their retention period. Message and conversation content is not copied into audit logs. |
| Email delivery records | Email content and sensitive links are cleared promptly after delivery or cancellation. Failed messages may remain encrypted for retry for up to 7 days; limited delivery records remain for up to 30 days. | Account deletion cancels queued messages for the account, except for the deletion confirmation. Records used to prevent duplicate course notifications may remain for up to 90 days without retaining the email body. |
| Inactive account requests | Up to 30 days after the request expires, completes, is canceled, or is rejected. | The request and its related email-delivery records are then deleted. |
Exceptions
Doveline may retain narrowly limited information longer when required by law, necessary to complete a pending user request, needed to investigate an active security incident, or reasonably necessary for a legal matter. The information will be deleted when the reason for retaining it ends.
Individual and parent requests
Users and, where appropriate, their parents or legal guardians may contact Doveline about access, correction, or deletion. Doveline verifies identity and authority before disclosing, changing, or deleting account information. See Student data.
